Sadie Jones (lecturer and PhD student) from the Centre for Sports Studies is about to embark on her initial pilot testing as part of her research study focusing on hamstring injuries in elite rugby players. Her pilot testing begins next week with the England Saxons squad. This pilot testing will involve Sadie interviewing each of the clubs doctor’s, physiotherapist’s and strength and conditioning coach’s to gather as much information as possible on how the clubs are managing, treating, rehabilitating and preventing the occurrence of hamstring injuries. She will try to identify the different methods employed by these clubs in their treatment of this common injury. The information gathered by Sadie over the next few weeks will be vital for her research study as it will enable her to develop a specific hamstring injury audit questionnaire which can be used by the rugby clubs to log in specific details about hamstring injuries that may occur to their players during the playing season.

Her main data collection for her research study will commence in February/March of this year when she will begin working with the RFU, 12 Premiership Rugby Clubs and the English National Team in a comprehensive research study on the causes and prevention of hamstring injuries.
