Sports Science Intern. 1st Team Training Analyst – Global Positioning Systems (GPS)

DESCRIPTION
The medical and exercise science department at Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club is seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to work closely with 1st team athletes throughout the 2011-2012 season.

JOB PURPOSE
- To contribute to the success and achievement of the WWFC 1st Team and Elite Development Squad.
- To strive for excellence within the sport Science and medical department and aim to provide optimal services to all professional footballers.
- Provide support and assistance to the Sport Science Department at WWFC
- Develop your skills and competency over a 10 month period working in professional sport

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement the use of GPS at WWFC for the 1st team, elite development squad and academy. Ensure all data is downloaded within an hour of training and reports on the analysis of the session are sent to the necessary staff before the end of the day.
- Highlight abnormal loads, overtraining and inadequate training to the appropriate members of staff.
- Feedback to all players on performance and in conjunction with 1st team Strength and Conditioning Coach offer strategies to improve performance or reduce injury risk.
- Use GPS data in coordination with injury statistics, training load and heart rate data to offer guidance to coaches on training loads
- Work in close conjunction with the clubs senior analyst to link all training data with match prozone data.
- In addition to training analysis offer sport science support for strength and conditioning when required

SERVICE DELIVERY
Ensure that the Medical and Sport Science Department create a seamless, integrated support service which positively impacts on the footballer’s performance.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Ensure all players are wearing GPS monitoring equipment for every session
- Ensure all data is downloaded within an hour of the cessation of the session.
- Send out a daily report on training load and highlight any players with abnormal or concerning data.
- Produce weekly, monthly and seasonal reports on GPS data

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
- Assist/undertake research of publishable quality to inform the working practices at WWFC
- Be an Ambassador of WWFC at all times and adhere to all Club’s policies and procedures.
- A positive attitude toward information technology in carrying out the responsibilities of the post.
- Ensure clear communication with all staff, parents and coaches to allow all involved to be fully informed of the player’s progress.
- Ensure confidentiality at all times.
- Work with a level of enthusiasm and commitment that highlights your passion and drive for the post.
- Open minded with a view to adopting new practices.
- Highly motivated with a passion for working in professional Sport.

EXPERIENCE
- Evidence of previous experience in professional sport whether it be paid or unpaid.
- A strong interest in performance analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential
Completed a BSc (hons) Sport Science / coaching degree.

Desirable
Completed or working towards a Master’s degree in Sport Science or equivalent qualification.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
- An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities in employment and sport.
- An understanding of individual responsibility in complying with Health and Safety polices at WWFC
- Ability to work irregular and unsocial hours as required. To have an understanding that work may be subject to change with less than 24 hours’ notice on occasions.
- Work will regularly be outside normal working hours, in evening and on weekends and bank holidays.
- Travel with overnight stays should be expected on a regular basis.
- Ability to travel abroad with teams if required.
- An understanding of and commitment to fair play and all national and international anti-doping policies as enforced by the Football Association and World Anti-Doping Association.
