Research Assistant


The Centre for Sports Studies wishes to appoint a full time Research Assistant to support the Director of the Centre and its staff in their research activities. The activities will be varied and include assisting with running studies, and writing reports.

The Person


You will hold a First or Upper Second Class degree in a relevant degree (e.g. physiology, psychology, sports science/sports therapy).

Experience of conducting a research project and good IT skills, particularly using Microsoft Office and SPSS are essential to this position.

Good skills in statistical analysis (descriptive, group comparison) would be an advantage.

The Department


The Centre for Sports Studies is poised to become one of the most exciting and innovative Sports departments in the UK. Based on the Medway Campus this ambitious department was set up at the University of Kent in 2001. Our aim is to establish the University of Kent as one of the leading institutions in the UK for Sport. The Centre for Sports Studies delivers the University’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Sport-related subjects. Our undergraduate programmes consist of a BSc (Hons) in Sport Therapy and in Sports Science and a BA (Hons) in Sports and Exercise Management.

At postgraduate level the Centre runs an MSc in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, in addition to its MPhil/PhD research degree programme. A BSc in Sport and Exercise for Health, and a professional doctorate programme are currently being validated. The Centre for Sports Studies has 270 students and more than ten academic staff and is planning a significant expansion to almost double in size over the next 3 years. The next Research Excellence Framework will be the Centre’s first research submission, but already our researchers have produced over 20 papers and secured several external grants.
