This position has been created due to the expansion of the department and the success of our recently introduced Sports and Exercise Management degree. We are also looking to expand our research activities, particularly in those areas allied to Sports and Exercise Management.

Health Professionals Believe There Is Inadequate Criteria For Certifying That An Illness Is Terminal

Research conducted from researchers of University of Granada together with Dr. Sakis Pappous of the University’s Centre for Sports Studies, revealed that emotions play an important role when health professionals have to certify that a patient is in terminal stage. To the purpose of this research, a qualitative study was undertaken with a sample of 42 participants. Participants were thoroughly interviewed, with the aim of analyzing the approach and language employed by health professionals treating terminally-ill patients

Real Madrid awards University of Kent lecturer with a research grant

Dr. Sakis (Athanasios) Pappous, Senior Lecturer and Course Director of Sport Management, has been awarded a 6.000 €  grant from the nine times Champions League Winners. Real Madrid has appointed the University of Kent lecturer to conduct a study concerning pre-service teachers’ views of including pupils with disabilities in physical education.

Eurobarometer Survey On Sport And Physical Activity In Europe

On March 29 the European Commission revealed the results of a special Eurobarometer Survey on Sport and Physical Activity. Among many interesting findings, the survey show that while a majority of European citizens weekly do some form of physical exercise, a worrying 25% of respondents are close to being completely inactive.

Sports Studies lecturer nominated as Associate Judge for the Coubertin Olympic Awards

The Centre for Sports Studies' Dr. Sakis Pappous has been nominated as Associate Judge for the Coubertin Olympic Awards. The annual Coubertin Olympic Awards student essay competition is organised by the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CIPC) in partnership with the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE).

Australian Sport Management academic visits the Centre

Dr Caroline Ringuet, an Australian Sport Management academic from Griffith Business School will be visiting the Centre of Sport Studies in March.

Dr. Ringuet will discuss with Dr. Sakis Pappous ongoing projects, research methods and scholar activities in the field of Sport Management. She will also have the opportunity to visit the Centre's facilities and have informal meetings with several of the Sports Studies lecturers.
